Riot Games launches season 2024 in League of Legends with exciting updates and previews

Riot Games, the powerhouse behind "League of Legends" (LoL), the world's most popular MOBA and PC game, marked the beginning of Season 2024 with a detailed video outlining upcoming developments and a sneak peek into the second season of the hit animated series "Arcane."

The Season Start event not only officially kicks off the League Ranked and tournament season for players of all levels but also serves as a momentous occasion to share insights into the highly anticipated content slated for 2024.


Andrei van Roon, Head of League Studio, expressed, "Season Start is a moment to set the stage for the weeks and months ahead and provide a sneak peek at some of the content the team has been working on. We hope you're excited about what you've seen so far for 2024. This year is also extra special because we'll be celebrating League's 15th birthday in October! Best of luck on your climbs, and welcome to Season 2024."


Players can expect an array of updates in 2024, including Arcane-inspired gameplay and characters, changes to the Champion Mastery system, the return of Arena, a brand new game mode, and more. LoL Esports also revealed significant changes to the qualification rules for global tournaments, the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the League of Legends World Championships (Worlds).


The introduction of the LoL Esports Hall of Legends, similar to a Hall of Fame, adds another layer of prestige to the competitive scene. A cinematic in the style of previous hits like "The Call," "Ruination," and "Warriors" inaugurates the new season on January 10.

Arcane Season 2 Preview

Arcane Season 2, set for a global release in November, promises to bring a fresh wave of excitement. Ambessa Medarda, introduced in Season 1, will join the Rift, accompanied by an Arcane-inspired gameplay update for a beloved champion from the show and new skins. Champion Updates in 2024

  • Skarner's visual gameplay update (VGU) is set to hit the Rift in the first half of the year.

  • Following Skarner, attention will shift to two other champion updates: one from Arcane and a special focus on Shyvana.

  • Smolder the Fiery Fledgling, heading to PBE on January 9, brings anticipation for the new year's champions.


Skins and Systems Updates

  • Rammus and Olaf will receive skins in 2024.

  • The Prestige skins lineup includes Rakan, Ezreal, Kindred, Evelynn, and Kayle in the first half of the year.

  • Lee Sin's skin catalog undergoes an art and sustainability update (ASU) in early May.

  • The introduction of Vanguard aims to combat bots, disruptive smurfs, and scripting, ensuring fair play.


Modes and LoL Esports Highlights

  • Arena returns in the first half of the year with enhancements such as increased teams, new augments, maps, and UI changes.

  • URF makes a comeback for Lunar Revel in patches 14.3 and 14.4, followed by One-For-All.

  • LoL Esports increases the stakes at MSI, with the winning team earning a guaranteed spot at Worlds.

  • The LoL Esports Hall of Legends honors individuals who have left a lasting impact on the game and community.
